If you look inside the closet of any rider, skater, or blue-collar worker, you’re going to find a flannel. For decades, it’s been the unofficial uniform of counter-culture. But for just as long, those flannels sucked. They’d shrink into crop tops after one wash, wrinkle if you looked at them wrong, and fade into a sad, fuzzy shadow of their former selves the moment you took them out on the road.
That was until 2013, when everything changed.
The history of Dixxon Apparel isn't a story cooked up by a bunch of corporate suits in a boardroom trying to capitalize on a trend. It started in a garage with 180 bucks, a serious amount of grit, and a Harley-Davidson mechanic who was sick and tired of garbage shirts.
Today, Dixxon Flannel Co. is a global juggernaut, bringing premium Men's Apparel to the working class without the corporate bullshit. Here is how we built an empire from scratch, revolutionized fabric tech, and left traditional apparel brands in our dust.
The Garage Beginnings: $180 and a Dream
Before Dixxon became a household name across the globe, our founder, Danny Dreyer (you probably know him as "Danny Dixxon"), was turning wrenches. Working 60-hour weeks as a Harley-Davidson service mechanic, Danny lived and breathed the lifestyle. He grew up immersed in custom choppers, skateboarding, and the raw energy of hardcore punk rock music.
In these scenes, flannels were a necessity, not just a style choice. But the options on the market couldn’t handle real-life rigor. They fell apart on the job site and shredded on the asphalt.
Danny’s Solution: Stop complaining and build "the world's best flannel."
In 2013, with a mere $180 to his name, Danny started Dixxon Flannel Co. in Huntington Beach, California. In the early days, there were no massive distribution centers or flashy marketing campaigns. Danny loaded up the trunk of his Scion and sold flannels locally at motorcycle swap meets, grassroots biker events, and skate parks.
The message was simple: Work Hard. Stay Humble. The working class noticed, the riders stepped up, and the #DixxonFam was born. We eventually moved our headquarters to Tempe, Arizona, opened up a year-round showroom on Main Street in Sturgis, South Dakota, and scaled into a $100-million-a-year operation. But we never forgot where we came from.

The Holy Grail of Fabric: Dixxon vs. The Competition
We didn’t get to the top by copying what traditional brands were doing. We got here by tearing down the old blueprint and re-engineering it.
While competitor brands are still out there peddling cheap, standard cotton that shrinks two sizes in the dryer, or scratchy synthetic blends that feel like sandpaper, we created our signature D-Tech™ blend.
Our proprietary D-Tech™ fabric is a game-changer. It gives you the ultra-soft feel of a classic vintage flannel, but it’s completely shrink-proof, wrinkle-resistant, and fade-resistant. You can thrash it on the track, grease it up in the shop, toss it in the wash, and it will come out looking as crisp and killer as the day you bought it.
But we didn’t stop at the fabric. We engineered these shirts with intentional, rider-focused details that the competition completely overlooks:
-
Hidden Collar-Stay Buttons: No more flapping collars beating you in the face when you're clipping down the highway at 80 MPH.
-
Extra Body and Sleeve Length: Tailored specifically so your wrists and lower back stay covered when your hands are up on the bars.
-
Microfiber Glass Cleaners: Subtly sewn into the inside corner of the shirt to instantly wipe down your sunglasses, goggles, or phone screen.
-
Dual Chest Pockets with Pen Slots: Heavy-duty utility built right into the chest for the guys getting their hands dirty.

Woven in Counter-Culture: The Influences That Shape Us
You can't fake authenticity. Our audience knows the difference between a brand that adopts a culture and a brand that is the culture. Dixxon is deeply rooted in the heavy-hitting movements that define modern rebellion.
Biker & Custom Car Culture
We don't just cater to the motorcycle and custom car scenes; we live them. From sponsoring the legendary Sturgis Motorcycle Rally and off-road spectacles like the Mint 400, to collaborating with custom suspension shops like Switch Suspension for our "Game Over" release, our gear is built to survive the road. Throw a Dixxon over your favorite graphic tee, layer it under one of our heavy-duty Men's Jackets, and you're ready for any journey.
Hardcore Punk, Skate, & Tattoo Art
The rebellious, do-it-yourself spirit of the 1980s Huntington Beach hardcore punk scene runs straight through our design DNA. We pay homage to individual expression by collaborating with iconic tattoo artists—like our historic run with Club Tattoo—and incorporating traditional flash art, intricate patterns, and bold statements into our gear. It's why pro skaters, underground musicians, and tattoo enthusiasts worldwide wear the Dixxon crest like a badge of honor.

The Power of the Drop: Legendary Collaborations
One of the cornerstones of Dixxon’s history is our limited-edition drop model. We don't believe in mass-producing boring styles that sit on department store racks for years.
The Dixxon Golden Rule: Every flannel design is produced exactly once. When a drop is gone, it’s gone forever.
This commitment to exclusivity has turned our Men's Flannels into highly coveted collector's items. Over the last decade, we’ve teamed up with some of the biggest icons in music, sports, and pop culture to deliver legendary, single-run masterpieces:
-
Music Giants: We’ve dropped massive, official collaborations with heavy metal and punk legends, including Metallica (spanning the Kill ’Em All, 72 Seasons, and Ride the Lightning albums), Pantera, Slayer, Sublime, Social Distortion, Pennywise, and Suicidal Tendencies.
-
Action Sports & Automotive: From X-Games champion Travis Pastrana’s "Channel 199" signature flannel to custom auto authority runs like the Lowrider Magazine plaid and Summit Racing 2.0 editions, we bridge the gap between performance and style.
-
Redefining the Classics: We don't just stop at flannels. When the weather warms up, we roll out our crowd-favorite Men's Party Shirts and lightweight short-sleeve button-ups, alongside ultra-comfortable Men's Sweatshirts and Hoodies for those chilly late-night garage sessions.
Work Hard. Stay Humble. Give Back.
Scaling into a global brand hasn't changed our core value system. At Dixxon, philanthropy isn't a marketing stunt—it's part of our DNA under our motto, "Grow to Grow to Serve."
We regularly use our limited-edition drops to raise massive funds and awareness for causes that hit close to home. Whether it's donating 100% of the proceeds from our "Sacrifice" flannel to the Military Order of the Purple Heart, partnering with the Pararescue Foundation, supporting the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation with our "Rose Up" series, or backed campaigns for Childhelp and Make-A-Wish Arizona, the Dixxon Fam always steps up to make a real-world impact.
Join the Dixxon Family
At the end of the day, Dixxon isn’t just an apparel company but a community of individuals who value hard work, raw authenticity, and premium quality without the premium price tag. We redefined a timeless classic so you can stop replacing your gear every season and start wearing flannels that are as tough as you are.
Don't settle for the imitators. Grab yours, ride hard, and welcome to the family.

Frequently Asked Questions
What makes Dixxon flannels different from regular flannel shirts?
Unlike traditional retail flannels that are made from cheap cotton or low-grade synthetics, Dixxon flannels are engineered using our signature, proprietary D-Tech™ poly blend. This specific fabric technology makes our shirts completely shrink-proof, wrinkle-resistant, and fade-resistant. We also build them with rider-specific utility that the competition ignores, including hidden collar-stay buttons to prevent collar flap at high speeds, extra body and sleeve length for coverage while reaching for handlebars, a built-in microfiber cloth for cleaning riding goggles or glasses, and dual chest pockets with functional pen slots.
Who owns and founded Dixxon Flannel Co.?
Dixxon Flannel Co. was founded in 2013 by Danny Dreyer, widely known as "Danny Dixxon". Before launching the brand with just $180 out of his garage in Huntington Beach, California, Danny worked 60-hour weeks as a Harley-Davidson service mechanic. He remains the active owner and head of the company today, steering our product innovation, brand strategy, and deep-rooted commitment to counter-culture communities from our headquarters in Tempe, Arizona.
Do Dixxon flannels shrink when washed?
No, Dixxon flannels will not shrink. Our proprietary D-Tech™ fabric blend is specifically engineered to resist shrinking, wrinkling, and fading wash after wash. You can put your flannel through heavy use in the garage or on the road, throw it in a cold wash with like colors, and it will come out fitting exactly the same as it did the day you bought it.
Why are Dixxon flannels released in limited quantities?
Dixxon operates on an intentional, limited-edition "drop" model where almost every single flannel design is produced only once. Once a specific plaid pattern or collaboration sells out, it is retired and never restocked. This model cuts down on the environmental waste of overproduction while ensuring our global customer base gets exclusive, highly collectible gear that lets them express their unique identity.
What subcultures and communities influence Dixxon Apparel?
Dixxon Apparel is deeply rooted in and built for custom motorcycle culture, classic lowriders, skateboarding, tattoo artistry, and hardcore punk and metal music scenes. Our designs and brand identity directly reflect these communities through heavy-duty construction made for the rigors of the road, bold graphics, and exclusive partnerships with legendary counter-culture figures and bands.
